INFORMATION

The Minister has returned on a graduated return to work, which is being monitored by the Ministries Council in Edinburgh. It is expected that it will take around 3 months till she is back to ‘normal working practice’.

Working hours will be restricted during this time, and so during the first six weeks or so the Rev. John Fairful will be assisting with funerals, but please contact the Minister first.

CALDER KITCHEN

The kitchen is on once a month and has been a worthwhile venture. We invite you to come along, bring a friend and enjoy a lunch with us (all homemade).

We would like to extend our grateful thanks to our Chef Mrs Grace Simpson and also thanks go to our waitresses, without them we could not run this venture. A thank you also to those who have donated tea, coffee, biscuits, etc.

We are always looking for volunteers to wait tables, wash dishes etc so we can hopefully set up a rota system. This would allow us to be on duty once or twice a year. If you would like to help us out please give your name to Margaret Herd, Ann Peat or Grace Lamont.

Dates for 2009 will be included in the next magazine.

CHRISTINGLE AND CAROL SERVICE

Sunday 7th December
Church Hall 6.30pm

Come along and join us at this very popular pre-Christmas celebration. Every year this has proved to be a very happy and festive evening, where everyone, young and old, have enjoyed fellowship together, singing our favourite carols.

We hope this year will be no exception with members of the congregation taking part and the young people doing the ‘Christingle Ceremony’.

Tea and mince pies will be served as usual at the end of the celebration.

“COME ALONG AND JOIN THE CELEBRATION”

2009 YEAR OF HOMECOMING
“You welcomed me as if I were an angel”

2009, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, has been designated by the Scottish Government as a ‘Year of Homecoming’ during which our country will reach out to all those around the world with an interest in, or affinity to, Scotland.

The Christian faith provides rich and challenging perspectives on the Homecoming theme and it is appropriate that the Church of Scotland is a partner of Homecoming Scotland 2009. A Church Visitor and Tourism Strategy group is working closely with Scotland’s Churches Scheme to encourage congregations to welcome visitors and tourists in new and old ways, in 2009 and beyond.

In 2010 the international dimension of the Church will be celebrated with the centenary of the 1910 Edinburgh World Missionary Conference and the 450th anniversary of the Scottish Reformation.

The Year of Homecoming is an opportunity for congregations to affirm the vision of the Church of Scotland to visitors from near and far “to be a church which inspires the people of Scotland and beyond with the Good News of Jesus Christ through enthusiastic worshipping, witnessing, nurturing and serving communities.”
